Inspired by the history of 19th-century Toy Theaters, kids will design their own “Lost World” in a 3D Paper Toy Theater format. Before the days of TV and movies, these miniature stages were a favorite way for families to bring big stories to life at home. This workshop is fun and accessible to all levels of artists, allowing kids to build their own prehistoric, scenic, and interactive world. SUMMER BOOK CLUB FOR KIDS: Wed August 5, 4:00pm at the Peabody Library. Open to all kids entering grades 4-8. Please register by emailing librarian@thetfordlibrary.org to sign up and receive a copy of the book, "Holes" by Louis Sachar. Refreshments served. WONDERFEET KIDS' MUSEUM PRESENTS "ROCK N' ROLL: EXPLORING WEATHERING AND EROSION": Thurs August 6, 3:30pm at Latham. Did you know forces can build and wear away landforms? Over time, water, wind, and ice can tear down mountains, hills, and other landforms. Children will explore weathering and erosion - how nature breaks apart rocks and moves them to change the shape of our Earth - with simple, hands-on, and fun investigations. Best for ages 6 and up. VINS PRESENTS "BIRDS ARE DINOSAURS": Mon August 10, 4:00pm at Latham. What did 65 million years of evolution turn the dinosaurs into? Birds! Celebrating “Unearth a Story” at your local library, we’re excited to introduce you to some live birds of prey and learn all about their dinosaur ancestry together. We’ll explore the ways modern birds became masters of the air, and understand the immense timescale over which these dinosaur-descendants adapted! PEABODY LIBRARY STORYTIME AT TREASURE ISLAND BEACH: Wednesdays at 11:00am, July 1-August 5, weather permitting. All ages welcome! Meet at the gazebo by the lake. ONGOING PROGRAMS: OCPCC PLAYGROUP: Orange County Parent Child Center and Latham Library are cosponsoring a Playgroup on Fridays starting at 10 am, directly before Storytime. There will be a variety of fun and engaging activities for all ages including songs, arts and crafts, sensory activities, and more! For those who are interested, a healthy snack will be provided.
